AMOLED shortage has compelled phone manufacturers to look for alternatives and it seems Samsung Electronics will also do the same. An article in Chosun claims that Samsung is preparing LCD versions of its Galaxy S and Wave phones, both of which, touted Super AMOLED as one of its main features.
There’s no confirmation if it will be a regular LCD but we won’t be surprised if Samsung goes with Super TFT, just like they did on Galaxy Tab. The article also says that the new display will also drive the prices down of the devices but the discounted price won’t be more than 100,000 won.
Samsung Mobile Display currently supplies 98 percent of the AMOLED displays worldwide with Samsung Electronics as its major customer.
The AMOLED shortage is expected to ease after its new facility will open next year, boosting AMOLED production to 30 million screens per month.
