UPDATE: Captivate’s update also improves GPS fix.

Samsung’s Galaxy S variants for AT&T and Verizon have got a new firmware update. AT&T’s Captivate is upgraded to I897UCJH7 whereas Verizon’s Fascinate is bumped to i500.DI01 that includes some performance enhancements and improvements.

Captivate’s update is a 12MB over-the-air download and will be rolled out to 15,000 Captivate users daily till Friday. The update brings pre-installed QuickOffice for Android to allow users to edit Microsoft Office files, Exchange 2003 support, improved calling experience and faster media scanning.

On the other hand, we’re not sure about Fascinate’s firmware download size but it promises to bring instant notification of Visual Voice Mail, improved syncing, faster switching to 3G network from 1X and more.
