Samsung confirms Galaxy Player, will showcase at CES 2011

UPDATE: Front facing camera is VGA. Will come in 8GB, 16GB and 32GB storage capacities.

Samsung has announced a new Android-based Galaxy Player that will be showcased next week at the CES 2011. Samsung says the new music player takes inspiration from its successful Galaxy S phone and is spec’d similarly sans the cellular connectivity.

The 9.9mm thick Galaxy Player (YP-GB1) runs on Android 2.2 Froyo OS and features a 1GHz CPU, 4-inch Super Clear LCD screen supporting up to WVGA resolution (800×480), T-DMB, SoundAlive audio enhancing technology, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0, 3.2MP rear camera with front facing camera for video calling, GPS, HD video playback, microSD card slot, Android Market and Samsung Apps access and a 1200mAh removable battery.

Samsung is also expected to show other Android PMPs like YP-G50 and hopefully the recently certified YP-GB70.

    I looks like it has a speaker on top like an iphone. This would make it very useful as a wifi phone, unlike my ipod touch which forces me to use a headset for my google voice calls instead of holding it up to my head like a regular phone.

    hi dis is arvind, i also love samsung products, especially the mobile phones, i wondered why the global player is not concentrating on pmp and mp3 players, but finally i think it had realised to concentrate on ipods and pmps.

    I WANT TO KNOW WHETHER THE ABOVE PMPS HAVE THE SRS WOW HD EFFECT IN IT, IF NOT PLEASE ADD IT TO THE PMPS , IT IS A MUST EFFECT WHICH EVERYBODY NEEDS IT, ESPECIALLY THE MUSIC LOVERS.

    I don’t know about you, but since this thing was announced back in Dec, I always felt it to be vaporware! I haven’t seen it announced for release anywhere!!!

    If this was released how come it’s not on Samsung’s website? I keep on trying to look for it but it is not under tablets, players or even in phone tabs..
