Samsung Electronics announced the launch of the first Smart TV application using Adobe AIR at the Adobe Technology developer conference – MAX 2011. The VH1’s Flash technology based application, ‘I Love the 80’s’ Trivia’, will be made available on Samsung Smart TVs in the US this fall via the Samsung Apps marketplace. Samsung already has sold more than 2 million units of Smart TVs globally.

“We are pleased that the rich content and vibrant colors bring the ‘80s back to life with the ‘I Love the 80’s Trivia app’ and provide our audience another screen on Samsung Smart TVs,” said Kristin Frank, general manager of MTV and VH1 Digital.

“Integrating Adobe AIR into our Smart TV platform was a logical step to ensure a robust content ecosystem for Samsung customers,” said Kyungsik Kevin Lee, vice president of Visual Display Business, Samsung Electronics. “By adding support for Adobe AIR for TV, we further opened the Samsung Smart TV ecosystem to more than 3 million Flash developers worldwide, who can seamlessly deliver gaming, media and data-driven apps to a wide range of Samsung devices.”

“Samsung has long supported Adobe’s talented developer community by making it easy to create, distribute and monetize rich content for Samsung devices using Adobe’s industry-leading tools,” said Danny Winokur, vice president and general manager, Platform at Adobe. “Samsung is leading the way in helping content publishers extend and optimize their applications for the television screen, making multiscreen content publishing a reality.”

Adobe AIR for TV 2.5 is currently available to developers on 2011 Samsung Smart TV models, and will be available on 2011 Samsung Smart Blu-ray Players later this year in North American and South American markets.

Samsung has upgraded its robotic vacuum cleaner line with the new NaviBot S. The new robotic cleaning device is 10 percent smaller than the previous generation and all it needs a touch of a button to start cleaning. The NaviBot S is equipped with the Auto Dust Emptying function, which means that if the dust container in the NaviBot S is filled up, the vacuum cleaner automatically heads to its charge base to evacuate the filled container to the attached central bin. Additionally, while the NaviBot S is emptying all the dust, the charging base cleans the vacuum cleaner’s brush for hair removal etc.

Just like the previous generation, NaviBot S is also equipped with an onboard camera but with the Visionary Mapping Plus System, the cleaner can capture images of the house at 30fps and map its optimum route for complete cleaning. NaviBot S also remembers the cleaned area and automatically increases suction power according to the quantity of dust.

Samsung hasn’t revealed the price or availability details of the NaviBot S.

Samsung has announced that their microwaves have won the world’s first certification mark for ant-bacterial technology. The microwave was certified by the Hohenstein Institute, which is an internationally recognized research and service center for hygiene and biotechnology in Germany.

Samsung says the ceramic enamel cavity found in the microwave does not come off, become rusty or crack which helps to keep the inside of a microwave bacteria free and more durable.

Our antibacterial ceramic enamel cavity is created the way pottery is produced. We apply antibacterial porcelain enamel that is produced in high temperatures – up to 830 degrees Celsius – to the inside of a microwave. The result is a high-class material that has a smooth, shiny surface like that of a piece of pottery. We’re the only company in the world to have such a feature in microwave ovens.

Samsung has announced a new series of refrigerator in South Korea dubbed as Collection Series. The series is segregated into three types of one door refrigerators – a regular refrigerator, a deep freezer and a kimchi refrigerator. Interesting thing about this range is that users can buy any of these separately and select the type of refrigerators depending on their use.

The Fridge Collection Series has a total capacity of 900 liters and comes in Aluminium Layered Finish that gives the fridge a premium look. It even shows off the temperature on the LED display at the top of the refrigerators.

The regular refrigerator will sell for 890,000 won whereas the freezer and kimchi refrigerator goes for 990,000 won and 1,290,000 won respectively.
