Series 9 notebooks from Samsung are one of the thinnest notebooks in the industry but Samsung took a step further with the second generation of Series 9. An investment of over 33,000 hours in research, the second generation Series 9 notebook is created out of single aluminum shell and is 37 percent thinner (at 12.9mm) and 0.4 pounds lighter than the original Series 9 notebook. Moreover, Samsung has sand-blasted the notebook to keep it free from smudges and blemishes.

On the hardware front, the Series 9 will come in two screen options – 13.3-inch and 15-inch one. Both come with an HD+ display (1600×900 pixels) and SuperBright Plus that offers brightness to up to 400nits.

Series 9 notebook is powered by Intel’s Core i5 processor, 128GB SSD, USB 3.0, Wi-Fi, multi-card reader, FastBoot tech that boots in 9.8 seconds, Battery Life Plus that gives up to 1,500 battery charges before a replacement and a battery life of up to 7 hours.

Samsung will release Series 9 notebooks from February 27 for $1,400 for 13.3-inch and $1,500 for 15-inch.

Samsung has announced Series 7 Chronos laptop for its domestic market. Unveiled at the IFA in September, Series 7 Chronos is inspired from Greek God Chronos – God of Time which boasts performance as well as looks.

Samsung Series 7 Chronos has a really thin bezel that allows to integrate an extra inch of screen in the same form factor (say a 15-inch display in 14-inch laptop). Moreover, the notebook is equipped with an Intel quad-core Core i7 processor, 8GB DDR3 RAM, AMD Radeon HD 6750M GPU, 1TB HDD, choice of 15.6-inch or 14-inch anti-reflective display supporting a resolution of 1600×900 pixels with 300nits of brightness and 8 hours of battery life with a capacity to charge about 1,500 times before a replacement.

Additionally, the notebook integrates Samsung’s Fast Start technology and Diskeeper’s ExpressCache that brings down the boot time to just 20 seconds and wakeup time to 2 seconds from sleep mode.

The 15.6-inch Series 7 Chronos will be available from January 3 at price varying from 1,790,000 won to 2,000,000 won whereas the 14-inch model will go on sale from late January from 1,790,000 won.

Samsung will be offering notebooks integrated with 4G WiMAX (known as WiBro) in South Korea. Samsung says new models will enable users to enjoy 4G WiBro services nationwide with KT who’ll offer plans at various price points.

Developed closely with Intel and KT, Samsung will offer 5 models with integrated 4G WiBro, including Slate PC Series 7, Series 3 300V, Series 3 350U, Series 3 300E and RC530.

The 4G WiBro notebooks will go on sale from tomorrow.

Samsung has become the seventh largest laptop manufacturer in the world in terms of market share. According to Yonhap News, Samsung managed to quadruple its market share from 1.4 percent in 2007 to 6.5 percent in Q3 2011 and also increase its shipments in South Korea from 2.8m units in 2008 to 10m in 2010. Samsung is expected to ship around 14m units this year.

With the new figures, Samsung has overtaken global laptop makers like Sony and Apple Inc.

Samsung has made its new Series 5 Ultrabooks official in South Korea. Coming in sizes of 14-inch and 13-inch, the Ultrabooks are equipped with Intel’s Core i5 processor and come with choices of 128GB SSD (or HDD) storage and up to 8GB RAM for enhanced performance.

The 20.9mm 14-inch notebook weighs 1.8kg, is carved out of an aluminum chassis and features an anti-reflective 1366×768 display, 1TB HDD with 16GB SSD, an optical disc drive, AMD HD7550M GPU. Other features include USB port, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, VGA port and HDMI port.

The 13-inch Series 5 Ultrabook on the other hand is slimmer than the 14-inch one with 14.9mm thickness, weighs 1.4kg and comes with a similar resolution display with anti-reflective coating, 500GB HDD with 16GB SSD, integrated Intel graphics, and different ports like USB / Ethernet / VGA / HDMI and Wi-Fi.

Samsung says ExpressCache has been used in these Ultrabooks that allow them to boot from hibernation to the desktop in about 7 seconds. Samsung’s Fast Start allows the notebook from sleep mode to the main screen in just 2 seconds.

Series 5 will be available in South Korea by end of December for a price varying from 1,290,000 won (US$1125) to 1,490,000 won (US$1298) for 13-inch and 1,340,000 won (US$1167) to 1,540,000 won (US$1341) for the 14-inch Ultrabook.

Samsung has unveiled a cheaper Wi-Fi-only version of Chromebook. Powered by the Chrome OS from Google, the new Chromebook comes with Wi-Fi as the only connectivity option along with the usual Chromebook goodies.

The Chromebook promises to boot up in under 10 seconds and boasts hardware specs like a 12.1-inch SuperBright 1280×800 display with 300 nits of brightness, Intel Atom N570 CPU, 2GB RAM, 16GB SSD, card reader, HD webcam, USB ports, full clickable trackpad and 8.5 hours of battery life.

The Wi-Fi-only Chromebook is priced at $349.

Announced at the Gamescom few months back, Samsung has introduced the Series 7 gaming notebook for consumers in South Korea. Samsung will sell two variants of 700G7A – one equipped with 3D and one without.

The Sens Series 7 notebook comes with a jog dial that allows users to select different modes according to the performance needs. The modes include Gaming, Balance Library and Green.

On the hardware front, Sens Series 7 features a 17.3-inch full HD LED display with 400nits of brightness, Intel quad-core i7 CPU, AMD HD 6970M 2GB GPU, 3D support (3D model only), 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD, Dolby support, backlit keyboard, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0 and more.

The 3D model (NT700G7A-S73D) will sell for 2,870,000 won (US$2,555) whereas the 2D model (NT700G7A-S72D) will sell for 2,630,000 won (US$2,342).

Samsung has announced a new model for South Koreans in its Series 3 range of laptops. The new model 350U comes after the launch of 300V and is touted to have a compact design and improved portability that has a 20.6mm of thickness and weighs 1.35kg.

The laptop will come in variety of colors – Pink, Titanium Black, White Silver and will match with the keyboard’s color. On the hardware front, 350U is powered by Intel’s 2nd Generation Core i5 processor, anti-reflective display, up to 640GB HDD and more.

The 350U pricing starts from 1,090,000 won (US$979).

Samsung has announced a special edition of its svelte and durable Series 9 notebook. The new edition will keep the same hardware but will come in two luxurious looking colors — Moonlight Blue and Rose Gold. There’s also a crystal design pattern on the notebook lid for added effect.

No word on the price but expect to pay some premium over the regular Series 9.

At the Gamescom, Samsung unveiled their first power packed laptop for gamers. The Series 7 currently consists of only one notebook — 700G7A and is packed with some serious hardware like quad-core Core i7 processor, AMD Radeon HD 6970M GPU with 2GB DDR5 memory and up to 16GB RAM support (across four slots).

Additionally, the 17.3-inch laptop features a full HD LED Display with a brightness of 400nits, a spaced out backlit keyboard which Samsung reckons is perfect for gamers, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0 + HS, HD webcam, Blu-ray drive, HDMI-out, USB 3.0, VGA port and 7-in-1 card reader.

The notebook will go on sale from September 12 in Germany for 1799 euros.
