As we all knew, Verizon is now selling Samsung’s Alias 2 (U750) phone. If Magic keypad powered by E-Ink technology excites you, the phone goes for $80 with a 2 year contract and an online discount.

Amongst other things, it has a 2 megapixel camera, QWERTY keyboard, Bluetooth with A2DP, V Cast Music and Videos, GPS, up to 16GB microSD card slot, EVDO and a 2.6-inch QVGA main display.

Samsung’s Alias 2 (U750) has already made a public appearance but this time it gets in front of a video camera and shows off its dynamically changing E-Ink keypad and few other features. Jennifer or JenJen from Howardforums managed to get it 4 days before the release and here she is recording her initial experience on the video. We have already seen and have enough details on Alias 2 and now Phonearena has leaked a few live pictures of the same. Their tipster reckons the magic keypad works very “smoothly and flawlessly”. But hey, why is the phone showing numeric keys when activated in messaging mode? Shouldn’t it be QWERTY?

Well, we have got more info on the dynamically changing keypad phone which we first caught glimpse in late March this year. The Samsung Alias 2 (U750) will make its way through Verizon on May 11 with a very affordable price tag of $79.99 after a commitment of a 2-year contract and $50 mail-in rebate. Alias 2 with a 1 year contract will cost $149 after a $50 mail-in rebate and $249 if you’re buying it upfront.

Its dynamically changing keypad has been christened as Magic Keypad which is powered by e-ink technology. For those who missed out the initial leak, the keys on the keypad changes according to the orientation. When the phone is flipped in phone mode, a regular alphanumeric keypad is revealed whereas a full QWERTY keypad is shown during text messaging mode.

Other features include a 2.6-inch QVGA display, 2 megapixel camera, V CAST, voicemail and visual voicemail, Bluetooth, GPS, 2.5mm audio jack, microSD card slot supporting up to 16GB of data and maintains almost similar dimensions as the original Alias with 101.85 x 51.82 x 17mm.

After the cool dynamic keys revealed yesterday, Phonearena has scored a few more pictures of the Alias2 (U750). The phone has a redesigned menu and as they put it, it “almost looks like a school classroom”. It also has a 2MP camera, Bluetooth and a QVGA screen.

Even though Samsung’s dual hinge designed Alias didn’t gather as much sales as they had expected, the form factor was still left to be improvised. Thus the U750 aka Alias2 will offer something similar to U740 but different. The form factor is still untouched but the keypad will mostly be dynamic – means the same keys on the single keypad will be different when opened in landscape mode or portrait. For instance, opening the clamshell in portrait mode will show a numeric keypad or a full QWERTY when opened in landscape. The keys are supposedly maneuvered with the help of E-Ink or something similar. Alias2 is expected to get official at the CTIA next month.
