Samsung held a groundbreaking ceremony in Suzhou, China for a new 7.5 generation fabrication facility. The factory will be setup by Samsung Suzhou LCD (SSL) which is a joint venture between Samsung, Suzhou Industrial Park and TCL Corporation and will invest about US$3 billion.

The 600,000 sq. mtr fabrication line will start mass producing panels in first half of 2013 and will produce 100,000 glass substrates (1950x2250mm) per month. This will be China’s largest advanced LCD production cluster that includes materials, component suppliers, LCD panel and module production and distribution.

Samsung Suzhou LCD sets a new precedent as a strategic joint venture between China’s leading TV maker TCL, leading LCD manufacturer Samsung Electronics and the center of the Chinese IT industry Suzhou Industrial Park.
In addition to unveiling a 7-inch AMOLED display that will purportedly go in the next-gen Galaxy Tab tablet, Samsung’s showcase of a 10.1-inch Plastic LCD hints at a larger-sized Galaxy Tab. However, I don’t think this LCD will be integrated in a 10.1-inch Tab considering its mass production is slated within two or three years.

Anyways, coming back to the display, it is just 1.88mm thick and uses plastic, making it ultra-thin and unbreakable. The screen supports WSVGA (1024×600) resolution, brightness of 250cd/m2 and a contrast ratio of 1000:1.

Samsung also has plans to integrate this display in netbooks.

Samsung has launched a new LCD monitor range for those looking for a budget solution. As the name goes, the monitors emphasize a lot on the environment but without losing the aesthetic appeal. The monitors come in 15.6”, 18.5”, 20” and 21.5” screen sizes, glossy design with rear wave pattern and feature a one-touch power saving hot key that instantly drops the power consumption to 75 or even 50 percent. Additionally, the monitors consume only 0.3W of power during standby mode.

MystEco monitors also boast a dynamic ratio of 70000:1, HD ready, 16:9 aspect ratio, Magic Angle that maintains the same clarity when viewed from different angles and Magic Return that is applicable in dual monitor setup and allows to automatically move content from one monitor to another in case one of the monitors is switched off.

The prices of B1630N (15.6”), B1930N (18.5”), B2030N (20”) and B2230N (21.5”) monitors are Rs.6350, Rs. 8300, Rs. 8700 and Rs. 11000 respectively.

Out-of-home (OOH) advertising is getting bigger and to help marketers attract more eyeballs, Samsung has initiated mass producing a 43-inch LCD panel meant as Digital Information Displays (DIDs). Apt for stations, airports, malls etc., this display can show images in a panoramic ratio of 4:1 at HD ready resolution (1920×480).

Additionally, the display also has a unique ability to split the wide screen into three screens that will run at VGA resolution (640×480).

As per DisplaySearch, the DID panel market is expected to grow from the current 1.33m to 6.57m units by 2015 with 90 percent of the market accounting for LCDs.
