Samsung has been bolstering its portable media player range with Android-based players. They brought the 4- and 5-inch Galaxy Players and now they’ve come up with a smaller and more affordable version – Galaxy Player 3.6 (Galaxy S WiFi 3.6 in some regions).

Samsung recently announced the Galaxy Player 3.6 for South Korea and is expected to make its way to US in March or April. The Galaxy Player comes with a 3.65-inch TFT LCD, 1GHz processor, Android 2.3 OS, 2MP camera, video chat support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and more.

Samsung has announced YP-F3 music player in South Korea, which Samsung says is apt for consumers with active lifestyle. Weighing just 22.5g, the player comes with an inch of display, touch-tone keypad and support for audio formats like MP3, WMA, Ogg, FLAC.

The F3 also features SoundAlive audio tech for improved audio playback, FM Radio and 2GB of storage.

It will retail for 59,000 won (US$52).

Samsung yesterday revealed the US-specific release dates of its smaller-sized Galaxy Tab 8.9 tablet and Android PMPs, Galaxy Player 4.0 and 5.0. The Galaxy Tab 8.9 that was on pre-order on Best Buy will be available from October 2 for a price of $469 for 16GB and $569 for 32GB. As for the specs, Galaxy Tab 8.9 features Nvidia’s Tegra 2 dual-core processor, Android Honeycomb OS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 2 and 3MP cameras, 6100mAh battery and various support for Hubs like Music Hub, Media Hub, Social Hub and Readers Hub.

Galaxy Players on the other hand, will be available from October 16 for $269 (Galaxy Player 5.0) and $229 (Galaxy Player 4.0). Interestingly, the Galaxy Players will be equipped with Android 2.3.5 OS. To refresh, Galaxy Player 5.0 comes with a WVGA 5-inch display, 1GHz CPU, 3.2MP camera with LED flash, front-facing VGA camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 720p HD video playback, 8GB internal memory, microSD card slot and 2500mAh battery.

Galaxy Player 4.0 sports a 4-inch WVGA display, 1GHz CPU, same 3.2MP camera at the back with VGA on the front, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 8GB internal memory, microSD card slot and 1200mAh battery.

Samsung has launched its Android-based portable media players in Germany. The Galaxy S WiFi 4.0 and 5.0 are now available in Germany for a price of 229 euros and 269 euros respectively along with bunch of other accessories.

Both Galaxy S WiFi 4.0 and 5.0 run on Android 2.2 OS and comes with a 4-inch Super Clear LCD and 5-inch LCD respectively, 1GHz processor, Bluetooth 3.0, VoIP support, Wi-Fi, GPS, 3.2MP rear and VGA front-facing camera, DLNA, microSD card slot.

Galaxy S WiFi 4.0 features a 1200mAh battery that claims to give up to 36 hours of music or 5 hours of video and Galaxy S WiFi 5.0’s 2500mAh battery can give up to 60 hours of music and 8 hours of video.

We don’t have any image but Samsung will reveal a new Galaxy Player at IFA. The Galaxy S WiFi 3.6 Smart Player will mostly have a 3.6-inch display and feature 1GHz CPU with latest Gingerbread OS, Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi, 802.11b/g/n, GPS, expandable memory and SoundAlive. It will come in capacities of 8 and 16GB.

A quick search shows Amazon UK has already listed the product. Galaxy S WiFi 3.6 8GB will sell for 150GBP and 16GB for 170GBP.

Samsung has given the official acknowledgement to previously leaked YP-R2 and YP-R3 media players. Unlike the recent PMP range that has been powered by Android OS, these new players run on proprietary OS and are low on price. The R2 is a compact touchscreen player that comes with a 3-inch WQVGA LCD, FM Radio, Sound Alive, voice recorder and variety of multimedia codec support like DivX for video and mp3HD for adio. The PMP also comes with MusicSquare that sorts music tracks according to user’s preferences. YP-R2 will be available in 4GB or 8GB options and will sell for 149,000 won and 169,000 won respectively.

YP-Z3 goes a little more low end but sports respectable specs. The Z3 also comes in capacities of 4GB and 8GB and features 1.8-inch QQVGA (160×128) display, DivX as well as mp3HD support, SoundAlive FM Radio, voice recorder and audio playback of 30 hours. YP-Z3 will sell for 89,000 won (4GB) and 119,000 won (8GB).

Samsung has confirmed the release of its Galaxy S WiFi 4.0 portable media player in Singapore. Consumers will be able to buy the 4-inch player from tomorrow at Samsung authorized stores at a price tag of S$328. Galaxy S WiFi 4.0 is similar to Samsung’s Galaxy S phone but comes with a 4-inch Super Clear TFT Display, 3.2MP camera and 1200mAh battery.

Rest of the features include 1GHz processor, 720p HD video playback, H.264/DivX/Xvid/WMV video and MP3/WMA/OGG/FLAC/AAC audio support, Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, microSD card slot and FM Radio.

Samsung will soon launch a new portable media player for consumers who’re tight on budget. The YP-Z3 will be an affordable yet decently spec’d player that boasts 4 or 8GB internal memory, 1.8-inch QQVGA (160×128) display and wide variety of multimedia format support, including MP3HD, making it another Samsung player after YP-R2. Although watching videos on such a tiny display could be cumbersome, Samsung has integrated video supporting DivX, Xvid, WMV, Mov, AVI etc.

The 36g Z3 also includes features like SoundAlive, Custom EQ, voice recording and audio playback of up to 30 hours.

Priced at 399,000 won, the 5-inch player boasts the same features internally but is bundled with an original Chelsea FC Home T-shirt and comes with the Chelsea logo at the back of the player.

Only 100 units will be up for sale.

Samsung today announced its 2011 product lineup for the US market and along with it came the confirmation for Galaxy Player 4” and Galaxy Player 5”. Both these PMPs were officially unveiled at MWC as Galaxy S WiFi 4.0 and Galaxy S WiFi 5.0 and will make its way out in United States in coming months.

Galaxy Players specs’ looks similar to the international variant with 1GHz CPU, Wi-Fi, front and back facing cameras, Qik video calling support and more. One interesting thing confirmed by Samsung is that the portable music players will be upgradeable to Android 2.3 (Gingerbread OS).
