Samsung is apparently trying to sell off its loss-making hard disk drive (HDD) business. According to WSJ’s source, the Korean giant is trying to sell the unit in order to tap newer “growth areas.”

One of the reasons for the loss is due to the rise of flash memory storage, which are used in mobile products like tablets, mobile phones etc.

Samsung is trying to offload the business unit for about $1.5 billion but is also considering to sell under $1 billion. Seagate is claimed to be a potential buyer.

Samsung will apparently unveil a larger-sized Android tablet at Mobile World Congress in couple of days. According to Pocket-lint’s sources, the new Samsung tablet will feature a 10.1-inch screen and will be lighter and thinner than the current Galaxy Tab.

The tablet will reportedly run on Honeycomb OS and have a dual-core Qualcomm processor along with an 8MP camera. The last two details seems to be in line with the specs we heard about Galaxy S2 earlier today.

The tablet is expected to be unveiled on the same day as Galaxy S2.

Although Samsung and Apple are competitors in the smartphone and tablet market, Apple is also its one of the biggest customers. Now contrary to the WSJ report that said the iPad 2 is already in production and will have the same display as original iPad, Daum and Korea Herald are reporting that Samsung’s subsidiary, Samsung Mobile Display could provide LCDs to Apple for iPad 2.

Apple is apparently interested Samsung’s Super PLS LCD that was unveiled in December. Super PLS LCD is superior than IPS panels as it is cheaper to produce, improves viewing angle by 100 percent, is 10 percent brighter and supports resolution to up to WXGA (1280×768).

Purportedly known as the Gloria, the 10-inch tablet will run Microsoft’s Windows 7 OS with a customized user interface that sits on top. Additionally, the tablet will also gain a horizontal-sliding physical QWERTY keyboard.

Having a physical QWERTY keyboard is always a plus but I’m not sure of having it on a tablet as large as this because typing on a Galaxy Tab in portrait mode is faster and comfortable as compared to typing in landscape orientation.

The tablet is still unconfirmed and so is the image. However, if it turns out to be true, we can expect the tablet to be unveiled by April 2011.

It’s no secret that Google’s Nexus One device was created by HTC. Now a new rumor has cropped up claiming that the Nexus Two might be created by Samsung. The phone is expected to run Android 2.3 and will be unveiled on November 8 at an event in New York.

This rumor, if true, could make Nexus Two the most powerful Android device in the coming months considering Samsung’s use of excellent hardware and steady stream of software updates from Google.

However, I’ll still stick with the launch of Continuum due to the fact that the invite has the stock ticker graphic that goes pretty well with Continuum’s Ticker display.
