UPDATE: Samsung contacted us with the following statement.

We are delighted with the success of the original bada platform, which was launched at MWC last year. We have looked to build on this with bada 2.0 by creating a versatile and robust platform capable of continuing the success of its predecessor. We have also created and strengthened an eco-system around bada, ensuring developers are able to create the apps our customers need and want.

Meanwhile, another Samsung spokesperson confirmed to Reuters that this newsletter was sent by an event organiser. Full quote to Reuters is below.

“There have been no orders from our Mobile Solution Center to initiate strategic hiring from Nokia, and the newsletter was simply sent by our event organiser in India to a group of engineers who showed up at our bada developers’ conference there earlier this month.

Samsung’s Mobile Innovator just sent another email reminding us that they’ll officially stop supporting the Symbian platform after tomorrow. The Symbian Lab for developers was closed in October whereas the Symbian forum and content related to the OS will be removed today and tomorrow respectively.

Samsung hasn’t confirmed if they’ll support Symbian in the future but considering the current state of Symbian and uptake of Android, the chances look really slim.

Looks like Samsung is temporarily dropping Symbian from its multi-OS strategy. Claiming “no visible demand for Symbian,” YH Lee, head of marketing at Samsung Mobile confirmed that they have not planned any Symbian devices for now but will launch if they see some consumer demand.

Meanwhile, Samsung also made it clear that they’re being bullish on Android for all their smartphone needs whereas bada will play the role to bring smartphone-like experience to lower-priced handsets.

“We are prioritising our Android platform. Android is very open and flexible, and there is a consumer demand for it.”

As for Windows Phone 7, Samsung might only make WP7 devices targeted at business users because WP7 has a “professional, specialized demand.”

Samsung’s thin Symbian portfolio is bound to get an addition this year. As per a report by Tweakers, Samsung is preparing a Symbian device to be launched later this year. The intrinsic details are still under wraps but we won’t be surprised if it will try to take over its successful Omnia HD, the last Symbian device launched by Samsung.

Samsung has been rumored to stop making Symbian phones by this year but that was debunked by saying that Samsung will adopt a multi-OS strategy and Symbian is a part of that.

Samsung currently develops smartphones on Android, Windows Mobile, LiMo, Symbian and bada.

Yesterday, a Digitimes report claimed Samsung dropping Symbian from its mobile portfolio and today we’ve got a different word straight from Samsung’s HQ. Samsung says the report is not in line with their smartphone strategy and will continue to build Symbian phones.

Samsung is an initial member of Symbian Foundation and continues to cooperate with Symbian Foundation. At the same time, Samsung supports various existing open operating systems including Symbian, Linux, Android, and Windows Mobile. To provide more choices to meet consumers’ many different tastes and preferences, we will continue our ‘multi-OS’ strategy. Our policy is to provide what consumers want when they need.

Symbian phones were always a minority in Samsung’s portfolio and it looks like they’ll give it a complete miss by next year. Senior VP, Don Joo Lee confirmed that Samsung will quit making Symbian handsets and instead adopt its own Bada OS that was unveiled yesterday. Though, Samsung will continue making WinMo and Android OS handsets.

Samsung also claimed to top 200 million handsets in 2009 with an aim to reach up to 20 percent by next year.
