At the ongoing AsiaD in Hong Kong, Samsung’s Won-Pyo Hong confirmed couple of things related to the Apple litigation. He refuted JK Shin’s claims that Galaxy Nexus is free from any patent infringements. In fact, he termed it as a rumor and said the phone was designed before the whole lawsuit thing happened.

Hong also confirmed that Samsung has started working on the next version of TouchWiz and it is being developed so that it does not infringe any Apple-related patents. The new TouchWiz is expected in early 2012.

We speculated if bada phone will be there at MWC or not and it seems bada’s official blog has let the cat out of the bag. The blog post has confirmed of a bada smartphone along with the new TouchWiz UX. Not sure how the new user interface will look or function but Samsung seems upbeat about it.

Once again, they’re highlighting the fact that bada is the most ‘developer-friendly’ mobile platform with emphasize on more control over features that are usually restricted by other OSes.

Despite being the second largest handset manufacturer, Samsung does not have phones based on its own OS, until now. Dong-hoon Chan, head of mobile devices design group at Samsung confirmed recently that Samsung is developing its own OS based on Linux platform.

We’ve also managed to gather some more info. With no OS in their arsenal, Samsung heavily relied on third party software makers to power their phones and with its smartphone share expected to rise more in the near future, they wanted to reduce the dependency on others. The first phone with its own OS is likely to hit in early 2010 and it is safe to say that Samsung will also throw in their TouchWiz UI since it was opened up recently.

As for the phones, purely on the basis of speculation, we can expect Protector (I8320) to be one of them and recently discovered I6410 that bears the same description as Protector – Linux based touch pad based multi functional smart phone.

Since most of the Samsung phones are touchscreen and TouchWiz works as the core UI, Samsung has made a smart move by opening up the TouchWiz UI. TouchWiz relies heavily on widgets and now developers will be able to create different widgets for the UI.

The devs can use web technologies like HTML, JavaScript and CSS to create their widgets and make them compatible on different TouchWiz UI enabled platforms with minimum modifications.

As a start to the Samsung Widget SDK program, Samsung Mobile Innovator will launch a Widget Developer Camp scheduled from September 11-13. Devs can submit applications and selected applicants will be allowed to attend the camp.

Thanks to the same source, we got to know Samsung’s new WinMo offering confirmed for China Mobile. The B7300 is powered by WinMo 6.1 and features TouchWiz UI. Good thing about this phone is that Samsung has left its proprietary USB connector in lieu of mini USB. There’s also a 3MP camera, microSD card slot, dedicated camera button and 4 way center button.

Samsung will be showcasing an upgraded version of its TouchWiz UI at the Mobile World Congress.
