Russian Mobile WiMAX operator, Yota and Samsung have teamed up to roll out Mobile WiMAX in parts of Latin America. This is the first project for both the companies outside Russia and Nicaragua will be the first country to get it.

Yota has already begun pilot testing in Nicaragua and plans to provide commercial Mobile WiMAX service in mid-2010. The service will then expand to other cities like Masaya, Granada and Leon.

Samsung will act as an exclusive equipment partner as Yota reckons this could accelerate time-to-market advantage.

Samsung currently provides Mobile WiMAX equipment to 25 different operators in 21 countries.
