Samsung and Intrinsity have jointly developed a fast CPU based on ARM’s Cortex A8 architecture meant for mobile products. Code-named as Hummingbird, the processor is based on Samsung’s 45nm, Low Power (LP) process that helps it to achieve a clock speed of 1GHz while consuming less power.

Hummingbird’s high performance, low power consumption is a result of Samsung’s customized circuit/memory structures, primitive cells and Intrinsity’s RTL FastCore and Fast14 tech that allows it to run at high speed even at a minimum supply voltage of 1V.

Samsung also confirmed that the future SoC products will developed using the Hummingbird core.
