Samsung develops method to commercialise Graphene, paves way for flexible displays

graphene

We first came to know back in 2012 that Samsung’s Advanced Institute of Technology (SAIT) was researching on graphene to solve the limitations posed by silicon, a widely used material in the semiconductors industry. Now they’ve teamed up with Sungkyunkwan University to discover a breakthrough method that will enable the commercialisation of graphene.

The new method synthesises large-area graphene into a single crystal on a semiconductor, which maintains its electric and mechanical properties.

Graphene has its own advantages – for instance, it has hundred times greater electron mobility than silicon, is more durable than steel and has high heat conductibility and flexibility.

Samsung says graphene is the perfect material for flexible displays, wearables and other next generation electronic devices.

There’s no specific timeline as to when this will be achieved but the research results will be published in the Science Magazine and ScienceExpress.
