Samsung has announced the mass production of its upcoming System-on-chip (SoC) based on 10nm FinFET fabrication process (10LPE). This mass production will make Samsung the first company in the industry to do so that uses an advanced 3D transistor structure with additional enhancements in both process technology and design enablement to do so.

Compared to the 14nm chip, Samsung says the new ones allow up to 30 percent increase in area efficiency, 27 percent better performance and 40 percent lower power consumption. Samsung has also confirmed that the second-generation process (10LPP) will also be introduced in second half of next year that will enable better performance.

First product using this 10nm chip is expected in early 2017 and we wouldn’t be surprised if Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S flagship will be the first one to use it.
