Samsung has announced that they’ve surpassed mobile phone shipments of 300 million handsets this year. This is a huge achievement because Samsung is the second company to do it after Nokia and its first since Samsung Electronics start making cell phones in 1988. In short, Samsung sold about 820,000 handsets each day this year.
Samsung acknowledged the fact that Galaxy S and Galaxy S II made them a worthy competitor in the smartphone space and also an important player in the 4G LTE market which grew by 33 percent in Q3 2011.
Samsung’s first major milestone came in 1996 when its total shipments exceeded 1 million and continued thereafter with 100 million in 2005 and 200 million handsets in 2009.
Samsung hasn’t divulged the smartphone figures but is expected to easily surpass its sales estimates for this year.
