Samsung is at Gamescom, and they have unveiled the P9 and the P7 portable SSDs featuring USB4 support. The chic and professional-looking P Series targets users who store a lot of ultra-high-resolution and AI content as well as large games.
The P9 is the world’s first 8TB USB4 portable SSD that boasts sequential read speeds of up to 4000MB/s and write speeds reaching up to 3000MB/s, which is almost double the previous generation. The 4TB variant, however, uses the USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 standard that tops out at 2000MB/s for both read and write.
Details on the P7 seem sparse, but it supports the USB4 interface and is durable enough to withstand up to 2-meter drops with shock and vibration.
The P Series SSDs will sell from Aug 31, with capacities starting from 1TB to up to 8TB.
P9 Pricing: $399.99 (1TB), $649.99 (2TB), $1349.99 (4TB), 2699.99 (8TB)
P7 Pricing: $289.99 (1TB), $549.99 (2TB), $1149.99 (4TB), 2289.99 (8TB)
