Samsung announced the next-generation KNOX platform earlier this year and today they’ve released the secure platform for Galaxy S5 users. With the rise of BYOD devices in businesses, the KNOX 2.0 secure platform aims to give the same security one would seek in an enterprise environment. The KNOX 2.0 is touted to be a “portfolio of multiple products and services designed to better meet the rapidly evolving enterprise mobility needs of customers” and includes KNOX Workspace, EMM, Marketplace and Customization.
The KNOX 2.0 also supports most Android apps from the Play Store and does not require a separate wrapping process to make the apps secure; same level of hardware-based security for other secure container solutions; and dual APN support that can be used to segregate the data traffic usage of enterprise apps from that of personal apps.
KNOX Workspace (core security platform and app container) is now available on the Galaxy S5 while rest of the KNOX-supported devices will get the support through a software update in the coming months.
