Samsung chooses Tizen over Android Wear for smartwatches

May 24, 2016 By Siddhanth Leave a Comment

Samsung Gear S2

Samsung’s Tizen ambitions may not have been going as planned as far as smartphones are concerned but the OS is doing well on other category devices, including smartwatches, TV and refrigerators. Now in an interview with Fast Company, Samsung execs claim that Tizen is far more power efficient than Android Wear and have no Android Wear smartwatches in the pipeline.

Samsung’s last Android Wear smartwatch was the Galaxy Gear Live but has so far produced many smartwatches based on Tizen OS, including the latest Gear S2.

Samsung’s move is not surprising considering Android Wear is yet to make an impact in the wearable market.
