Samsung is reportedly interested in buying InterDigital Inc.’s patent portfolio, according to two Bloomberg sources. In addition to Samsung, Google and Apple are also talking to InterDigital Inc. privately to buy the patents. InterDigital holds about 8,800 patents related to mobile technologies and is used in many Android devices, iPhone and few BlackBerry smartphones.
Needless to say, if Samsung manages to pocket all or some of InterDigital patents, they’ll try to use it against Apple in the ongoing lawsuit.
