Samsung Creates F2FS File System For NAND Flash-Based Devices

With most devices using NAND flash memory these days, Samsung has developed a new file system that is optimized for such storage. Samsung says the current file system is optimized for conventional HDDs but the F2FS file system takes advantage of the flash memory while improving on the issues encountered by the old file system.

Samsung’s dabbling with the file system is not new as they had adopted the RFS file system a couple years back. However, this time Samsung is offering the file system to be integrated with the Linux kernel, widening the chances of the file system to be adopted by other manufacturers.
