UPDATE: It’s official. Samsung has stopped selling TVs and home appliances in China from May 6, 2026.
Samsung is planning to withdraw from China’s home appliance and television market later this year, according to a report published by Nikkei.
The report pins local competition and the declining price competitiveness as the major factors for the Korean giant’s retreat, but Samsung hasn’t reached a final decision yet. The decision could come by the end of this month.
Despite the sales pullback, Samsung plans to retain its China-based manufacturing operations, with facilities producing refrigerators, washing machines and air conditioners will be repurposed as supply hubs serving overseas markets.
Expectedly, Samsung declined to confirm the plans. In a statement, the company said it regularly reviews its global business structure in response to changes in the operating environment, adding that no decision has been made regarding speculation about a potential restructuring of its China operations.
