Samsung published the financial result of third quarter of 2013 that ended on September 30, 2013. The consolidated revenue for the quarter reached 59.08 trillion won, a 3 percent increase over the last quarter and recorded an operating profit of 10.16 trillion won and net profit at 8.24 trillion won.
These are record figures for Samsung and was fueled due to the growth of mobile phone sales and strong demand for semiconductors.

Semiconductors:
Samsung posted consolidated revenue of 9.74 trillion won with an operating profit of 2.06 trillion won. Samsung says DRAM and NAND flash memory showed strong growth due to demand for mobile devices, gaming consoles and broader SSD adoption.
Going into the next quarter, Samsung expects supply constraints due to strong market demand of DRAM and NAND products. Samsung also expects its application processor demand to improve along with the demand for high-pixel image sensor.
Display Panel:
The display panel business posted a revenue of 8.09 trillion won with operating profit reaching 0.98 trillion won. The profit decreased by 12 percent quarter-on-quarter. The sales for this quarter suffered due to the rising inventory in the TV and the PC industry.
Samsung expects Q4 2013 to have a weaker panel demand for TVs despite entering in a holiday season.
IT & Mobile Communications:
The IT & Mobile Communications division comprises of Mobile Communications, Telecommunication Systems, IT Solutions and Digital Imaging recorded revenue of 36.57 trillion won, out of which 35.20 trillion won came from the mobile phone business. The operating profit reached 6.70 trillion won, a rise of 7 percent QoQ.
The IM division’s growth has been more or less remained stagnant despite showing a 3 percent growth QoQ and increased sales of mass market models.
For Q4, Samsung expects smartphone and tablet sales to grow due to seasonality demand. as well as promotions in LTE-enabled markets.
Consumer Electronics:
The Consumer Electronics Division that includes Visual Display and Digital Appliances businesses posted an operating profit of 350 billion won on revenues of 12.05 trillion won. The operating profit shot down by 18 percent QoQ due to the emerging market growth decline for digital appliances and decrease in demand for TVs in EU and Chines.
Samsung expects a good demand going in the final quarter due to seasonality demand and world cup demand in Latin America.
