Samsung just announced the new 850 PRO series SSDs at the 2014 Samsung SSD Global Summit in Seoul that features Samsung’s 3D V-NAND flash memory technology. 3D V-NAND will drastically improve the performance of the SSD and is targeted at users using high-end PCs or workstations.
V-NAND is Samsung’s proprietary vertical cell structure tech that overcomes the density limit faced by planar NAND architecture used in conventional flash memory. V-NAND results in improved speed, durability and energy efficiency.
The Samsung 850 PRO boasts a sequential read speed up to 550MB/s while the write speed goes up to 520MB/s. The SSD’s random read performance is up to 100,000 input/output operations-per-second (IOPS), with write speeds of up to 90,000 IOPS. Furthermore, the drive is equipped with Dynamic Thermal Guard feature that maintains the ambient temperature during operation to prevent data loss from overheating.
The Samsung 850 PRO will be available in capacities of 128GB, 256GB, 512GB and 1TB from this month in 53 countries.
