It’s here! The rumoured standalone smartwatch that does not require a phone to initiate calls has been announced by Samsung and it is called as Gear S. The latest smartwatch supports 3G and features a 2-inch curved AMOLED display (360×480) along with a flexible band that Samsung says fits comfortably on user’s wrists.
As for the rest of the specs, the Gear S features a 1GHz dual-core processor, Tizen-based wearable platform, 512MB RAM, Bluetooth, GPS, 4GB internal memory with no memory expansion slot, Heart-rate sensor, UV Sensor, Barometer and 300mAh battery that will give about 2 days of battery life.
The Gear S is IP67 certified to protect it from dust and water and even supports a slew of Gear Apps from the store or the pre-loaded ones like S Health, Nike+ Running, Navigation, S Voice, Power Saving Mode.
Samsung will start selling the Gear S from October.
