Samsung joins hands with South Korean companies to develop chips

July 28, 2009 By kunal Leave a Comment

In a bid to save on imports, South Korean companies like Samsung, LG, SK Telecom and others have come together to develop chips in their own country. Such a deal is the first for LG and Samsung, who have predominantly fought in every segment as rivals.

Samsung and LG will make global digital TV receiver chips where LG will design the chip while Samsung will manufacture and test them. On the other hand, SKT will look after to develop System on Chip (SoC) for smartphones.

If successful, such an alliance could save hundreds of billion Won in imports and create investment opportunities and job employment.
