Samsung announced that they have developed their first commercial Long Term Evolution (LTE) modem meant for mobile devices. The modem complies with the 8th release of the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) standard. Dubbed as Kalmia, the modem enables download speeds of up to 100Mbps and upload speed of 50Mbps, which is equivalent to streaming four HD movies simultaneously with no buffering or downloading a 800MB HD file in under a minute.
