Samsung considering Google TV

April 27, 2010 By kunal 1 Comment

Samsung C9000

Samsung Electronics is contemplating to develop Google TV based on Android operating system. An unnamed Samsung executive confirmed to Korean Herald that they’re indeed evaluating the feasibility of an Android-based TV.

We are considering (developing) Google TVs. We are examining the business feasibility of Google TVs.

While Samsung has their closed platform running on their TVs, the new interest from the Korean giant could be due to Sony’s association with Intel and Google to make their version of Google TV.

At the CES this year, Samsung announced Samsung Apps, an application store for TVs and if the store can create a pool of apps similar to what is offered on Android, Samsung wouldn’t have to develop a TV on an open-source platform.

Chun Seung-hoon, an analyst at Eugene Investment & Securities rightly points out that it shouldn’t be a problem for Samsung to roll out Google TVs but it would be logical to expand its TV lineup on their own bada platform.
