Samsung Galaxy Beam launched in Singapore, has 720MHz CPU

Samsung Galaxy Beam

As we reported earlier, Galaxy Beam went on sale this weekend in Singapore. We were unsure about processor speed in the retail unit but now we know, thanks to the detailed specs on Samsung Singapore’s website.

According to the official specs, the Galaxy Beam sports a 720MHz TI OMAP3440 CPU. The prototypes that were showcased previously featured CPU running at a clock speed of 800MHz. Interestingly, the ARM Cortex-A8-based OMAP3440’s stock clock speed suggested by Texas Instruments is 800MHz.

This is not the first time Samsung has underclocked a device. They did the same thing with Galaxy A claiming lower clock speed resulted in better battery life without compromising on performance.
