Singapore will get Galaxy S II in April

March 14, 2011 By kunal 14 Comments

SGS2

Samsung Asia’s CEO, Gregory Lee has confirmed the release of Galaxy S II device for Singapore. The exact date and price are not known but consumers will be happy to know that the phone will be available from next month.

It’s also unclear if the Singaporean variant will come either with Exynos or Tegra 2 processor or will come with NFC or without. However, rest of the specs like a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus display, Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS etc. are expected to be the same.

Thanks, HwaJong!

The difference between Exynos and Tegra 2?
Nothing to worry about. Both feature dual-core, and same clock speed. Exynos is from Samsung, Tegra 2 is from NVidia.
You wouldn’t describe either as sub-standard compared to the other.

    In short – No.
Each geographical area (in theory), will be getting handsets with the same chip inside, so there will be no difference in price.
Prices will vary geographically, but this *shouldn’t* be as a result of a difference in chipsets. Samsung are only using NVidia temporarily to fill a hole in their Exynos supply line.

how can Samsung fill in the Nvidia temporarily in their product??
it is clearly samsung owns Exynos right. if they can produce so many phone, why they can’t produce more Exynos chipset?
by the way, Exynos and Orion is the same right?
but from my opinion, Nvidia is more stable. there’s a rumours that Exynos not yet stable.

    Quick answer?
The chips are more difficult to produce than the other components of the handset. Also, the Exynos is the newest component of the handset, production has started relatively late in comparison.
The other alternative would be to delay the rollout of the handset, which may cost them the market lead, which in turn could cost them more than the extra bucks they throw NVidia for their Tegra2.
Orion was the development codename for the Exynos chip. Much like MS with their longhorn/pronghorn/greenhorn or whatever it was for Windows 7. That’s mostly to do with grabbing trademarks and copyrights, etc.
There’s no hard facts to suggest one chipset is more stable than the other.
My NVidia gfx card in my PC runs like a disease-ridden donkey, but that’s a different matter.. 😉

There is actually a slight difference in performance between Exynos and Nvidia Tegra 2. Besides all of that Android 2.2 and 2.3 do not actually supports Symmetric Multiprocessing, so getting a dual core or single core will not really matter till, Android comes out with a 2.4 which supports Symmetric Multiprocessing^^
