Samsung looking to settle antitrust case in EU, says Reuters

Samsung is in talks to settle the antitrust case that was put forth by the EU Commission in January last year. This piece of information comes from Reuters who cites one of their sources claiming the electronics giant has been in talks with the regulator “for several months”.

However, the source also points out that it is a bit early to say if the talks will result in actual settlement but if it does, Samsung could escape a hefty fine that could go up to $17.3 billion.

The Commission started investigating Samsung to see if they abused their position to license certain standard-essential related patents on FRAND terms.

In December 2012, the EU Commission sent a ‘Statement of Objections’ that said Samsung did abuse their position to license patents to Apple.
