Samsung might dissolve its joint venture with Japan-based Sumitomo Chemicals. Both companies entered [PDF link] into an equal partnership in 2011 to setup the Samsung Sumitomo LED Materials (SSLM) venture in Korea where they worked to manufacture and market sapphire substrates for LEDs.

Samsung hasn’t officially confirmed the move but an unnamed executive claims “they’ve been considering various measures to enhance competitiveness”. ETNews reports Samsung could sell all their shares in the venture by the end of this month.
