Samsung back in March confirmed its intentions to release a smartwatch in the near future. Now a bit of sleuthing from Phandroid reveals Samsung applied for a trademark for a name called “Gears”. Although Samsung has listed almost every electronic device for which the name could be used, the last three lines are interesting that mentions “clocks; parts and fittings for watches; wristwatches; electronic clocks and watches; bracelets; watchbands; control clocks; watches that communicate data to personal digital assistants…”.
In all likeliness, Gear could be the name of its upcoming watch or it could be one of the features that would be integrated in the watch. But whatever the case is, it’s a good positive step forward.
We assume Samsung will have more to say about the watch at IFA expo in September.
