Samsung says GPU frequency on Galaxy S4 is varied for optimal user experience

Galaxy S4 (I9500 Review

Samsung has responded to the investigative report from last night that proved the Exynos 5 Octa chip in the Galaxy S4 boosted the GPU clock frequency to achieve higher scores in benchmark tests.

Samsung’s official statement, which they’ve published on their official blog, claims the reason for limiting the GPU frequency to 480MHz instead of the maximum 533MHz is that prolonged use of certain apps at full frequency could cause an overload and have varied the frequency to “provide optimal user experience for our customers, and were not intended to improve certain benchmark results.”

Samsung also confirmed that some full-screen apps like S Browser, Gallery, Camera, Video Player and certain benchmarking apps run at full GPU frequency.
