Samsung to counter Fitbit-like wearables with Galaxy Gear Fit?

The rumour mill is working overtime as we move closer to Samsung’s Unpacked event. Korea-based MK News claims that in addition to the Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Gear 2, Samsung will unveil an accessory known as Galaxy Gear Fit. According to their sources, Samsung will replace the camera, found on the original Galaxy Gear, with some additional sensors that will support pedometer functionality, sleep tracking and health checkup function. In short, Samsung’s accessory will directly compete with the likes of Fitbit, Nike Fuelband and other offerings.

If true, we can expect the Galaxy Gear Fit to take advantage of Samsung’s S Health app.

Samsung’s Unpacked event will take place in Barcelona, Spain on Feb 24.
