Going by the recent trend, Internet of Things (IoT) or in simpler words, Internet connected devices will gain a lot of traction and unsurprisingly, Samsung wants to be at the forefront of the ‘next big thing’.
After announcing to form Open Interconnect Consortium, Samsung has teamed up with companies like Nest Labs, Yale Security, Silicon Labs, Freescale Semiconductor, Big Ass Fans and ARM to form the Thread Group to develop Thread, an IP-based wireless networking protocol for the IoTs.
The group will help to accelerate the adoption of the new protocol which will enable to securely “connect more than 250 devices into a low-power, wireless mesh network and will also include direct Internet and cloud access for every device.”
The group tries to distinguish itself from other IoT standards as an IPv6 networking protocol built on open standards that are designed for 802.15.4 mesh networks.
