Samsung buys Joyent to fulfill its cloud ambitions

Samsung has confirmed that they’ve agreed to acquire US-based Joyent Inc. that offers cloud services. Samsung says the acquisition will help them support its “growing lineup of mobile, Internet of Things (IoT) and cloud-based software and services whereas Joyent can scale their technology and operations to grow and compete in the cloud market.

While Samsung and Joyent haven’t revealed the monetary transaction involved but Samsung has confirmed that Joyent’s “CEO, Scott Hammond, CTO, Bryan Cantrill, and VP of Product, Bill Fine will join Samsung to work on company-wide cloud initiatives” but will work as a standalone company under the Samsung brand.
