Samsung has added an interesting device to its optical disk drive lineup. The SE-208BW functions as a regular external DVD writer but adds wireless functionality that will allow users to play and stream CDs and DVDs to their Wi-Fi-enabled devices. In short, users with Allshare supported devices can enjoy content from the CDs and DVDs inserted into the drive or can even backup content from their devices wirelessly to CDs and DVDs.
Streaming is not the only thing SE-208BW boasts of, the external drive can also act as a repeater to extend Wi-Fi coverage or a Personal Cloud Server by attaching an external hard drive and Ethernet LAN cable.
As for its optical drive prowess, the ODD is compatible with both Windows and Mac OS, features Buffer Under Run technology to prevent errors that may result from writing speeds and supports speeds up to 24X CD-ROM, 24X CD-RW, 8X DVD reading and 8X DVD±R, 5X DVD-RAM, 6X DVD+R Dual Layer, 6X DVD-R Dual Layer, 8X DVD+RW, 6X DVD-RW recording.
It will be available in early 2012.
