Samsung recently won the appeal in UK that ruled Galaxy Tab to not infringe the iPad design patents and ordered Apple to post a notice on their website stating Samsung’s tablets did not infringe the patents. Apple has now complied with the court order but has carefully worded that basically undermines the statement about not copying.
The complete statement starts off by saying how premium the iPad’s design is and how an “informed user would want to pick up and hold” whereas Samsung’s Galaxy Tablets look like an “Apple design” from the front but “very thin, almost insubstantial members of that family with unusual details on the back,” thus making them not as cool as the iPad.
Finally, Apple signs off by listing their victories in other international courts and says “while the U.K. court did not find Samsung guilty of infringement, other courts have recognized that in the course of creating its Galaxy tablet, Samsung willfully copied Apple’s far more popular iPad.”
