Samsung’s Dr. Stephen Woo took the centre stage today and unveiled the next-generation processor for mobile devices. It’s the Exynos 5 Octa, an 8-core processor targeted at high-end mobile phones and tablets. The processor is equipped with four Cortex-A7 cores and four Cortex-A15 cores and takes advantage of ARM’s big.LITTLE technology that uses the Cortex-A15 for performance-intensive tasks whereas uses Cortex-A7 for lighter scenarios.
Samsung claims the overall performance of the SoC has doubled while reducing power consumption by up to 70 percent compared to the previous generation quad-core Exynos.
Samsung hasn’t divulged any date but we wouldn’t be surprised to see this SoC in one of Samsung’s flagship devices.
