Samsung just announced the Galaxy S4 and if you’re wondering what new things it brings to the table, check out the list below.
Design-wise you wouldn’t find much difference from the Galaxy S III or the Galaxy Note 2 but Samsung has managed to cram in a large display and thinner bezel in a compact shell. The Galaxy S4 measures 136.6 x 69.8 x 7.9 mm and weighs just 130g. Samsung is still giving a ‘nature’ touch to the phone and will be available in two colours – Black Mist and White Frost.
The first obvious change is the display. Galaxy S 4 now comes with the world’s first 5-inch full HD Super AMOLED display that supports a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels and a pixel density of 441 ppi. The display is equipped with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and even works with gloves on.
The phone is also touted to be compatible with 6 different LTE bands and will support both TDD and FDD LTE.
Next up is the processor. Samsung has packed in their in-house built Exynos 5410 Octa-core processor clocked at 1.6GHz or Qualcomm’s 1.9GHz quad-core processor depending on the market. Although we’re not sure but Samsung will most likely select Qualcomm SoC for LTE variant.
There’s a 13 megapixel camera at the back with auto focus, LED flash, zero shutter lag and a 2 megapixel on the front. Both support full HD video recording.
Software is what Samsung is emphasising on and this phone features lots of new features that will help to enhance the overall experience. The Galaxy S4 will run Android 4.2.2 out of the box.
The camera takes advantage of software enhancements like Dual Camera that allows simultaneous use of both front and rear cameras; Drama Shot that takes multitude of photos to create a time-lapse; Sound & Shot that allows users to add audio elements while taking a picture; Eraser allows removing objects from a particular photo; Cinema Photo allows creating moving pictures (gifs); Dual Video Call that uses both the cameras simultaneously during video call.
Smart Scroll and Smart Pause are two features we’ve known and talked about in the past well. Smart Scroll basically tracks user’s head and wrist movements to scroll the page up or down and Smart Pause will pause the video if the user looks away from the screen.
Samsung has also improved Air View that was found on the Galaxy Note range and works similarly. However, the major difference here is that Air View works by hovering the finger and shows a small preview of the email, video, photo etc.
Galaxy S4 comes with an Optical Reader that makes recognising QR code, business cards easier.
S Translator is one of the unique features that allows to translate text or voice instantly.
Galaxy S4 now features an IR remote control which when used in conjunction with WatchON, it will allow to control all home entertainment systems.
The S Health help user’s to track their sleeping patterns, number of steps, food diary etc.
S Voice Drive is another feature that accepts commands via voice once the device is connected to the car Bluetooth and even converts all the text to speech so a user does not need to look at the phone.
