Samsung has announced that they’ve started production of the high-speed low power DDR3 (LPDDR3) RAM for mobile devices. Samsung says the new 4Gb (gigabit) LPDDR3 mobile DRAM is based on 20-nm process and achieves performance levels comparable to RAM found on computers.
The 4Gb RAM can transmit data up to 2,133 megabits per second (Mbps) per pin, which is more than double in comparison with the LPDDR2 (800Mbps). Furthermore, the new DRAM consumes 20 percent less power.
Samsung will offer OEMs a 2GB package with four chips stacked together achieving a package height of just 0.8mm.
Samsung expects to ramp up the production of the new chip later this year.
