The Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) today announced the winners of the International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) 2013 and in addition to existing Samsung products, the Korean company won awards for its innovative design concepts.
The image you’re looking above is of Origami Mono Laser Printer that won the IDEA gold award for its eco-friendliness. The basic idea of the printer is that compared to existing printers, the Origami printer will be recyclable even after it stops working. Origami uses cardboard for the outside body and uses a cut out design for easier assembling. The final design resembles a regular printer where the main machine can be fitted and claims to offer same durability as you would expect from a traditional plastic-based printers.
I’m not sure about the actual implementation but the concept is definitely intriguing.
Other Samsung products and concepts that got the recognition are Mate-Easy Laser Printer (gold), Clip Laser Printer (gold), LABGEO A20A (gold), OLED TV logo (gold), Full HD Monitor SC750 (bronze), 85S9 UHD TV (bronze), Mamma Salt Shaker (bronze).
