Samsung Exynos’ official twitter account has confirmed a new SoC announcement for next week. While the image that is accompanied with the tweet does not say much, we do know that a “more powerful” and “enhanced” Exynos 5 Octa will be announced. The new Exynos 5 Octa, which is to be believed to be Exynos 5420 will most likely have a higher clock speed and improved optimisation to take advantage of the integrated eight cores.
The current generation Exynos 5 Octa powers a single device – Galaxy S4 and it sells in select markets only. The Exynos 5 Octa is equipped with two sets of quad-cores with one set of Cortex-A15 chips being used for power intensive tasks while the other quad-core of Cortex-A7 chips for lighter tasks.
The confirmation about a new SoC is interesting because the first generation Exynos 5 Octa was announced with much fanfare at CES earlier this year and now after six months, Samsung is ready with an evolved variant.
