Mere hours after the leak, Samsung has officially announced the next generation Gear smartwatches. As claimed previously, the watches lose the Galaxy branding from the moniker as the Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo are now powered by the Tizen OS instead of Android. The new Gear 2 watches are spec’d similarly with the Gear 2 sporting a camera while the Gear 2 Neo does not have one.
Features-wise, both watches sport a 1.63-inch 320×320 Super AMOLED display and is powered by a 1GHz dual-core processor, 512MB RAM and 4GB of internal memory. Furthermore, the Gear 2 and Gear 2 comes with a heart rate sensor, pedometer, infrared for Samsung WatchON, dedicated music player, S Voice, Bluetooth 4.0, 300mAh battery that now gives up to 3 days of normal usage and IP67 certified for water and dust resistance.
Some of the differences between both the models are the camera – the Gear 2 has a 2 megapixel 720p camera and weighs 13g more than the 55g Gear 2 Neo and colour options, which will be Charcoal Black, Gold Brown and Wild Orange for Gear 2 and Charcoal Black, Mocha Grey and Wild Orange for Gear 2 Neo.
The Gear 2 and the Gear 2 Neo will go on sale in April this year.
