Samsung is planning to launch a new smartwatch at the Unpacked event next month, according to a report by The Chosun Ilbo. But unlike the current range where watches need to be tethered to a smartphone to carry out calls, messages etc., the new “Gear Solo” will boast cellular connectivity.
The report claims it will help Samsung “stay ahead of Chinese rivals” who are eating Samsung’s market share with lower priced handsets.
A watch phone from Samsung wouldn’t be surprising because the Korean giant had dabbled with a similar watch a few years back, only to attract limited attention.
Samsung’s Unpacked event is on September 3 where Samsung is expected to announce the Galaxy Note 4.
