Samsung Electronics has announced that they have started mass producing its six gigabit (Gb) low-power double data rate 3 (LPDDR3) mobile DRAM. The DRAM is processed using 20nm technology that claims to improve performance by 30 percent and will enable users to have a device with longer battery life with faster processing of apps.
The 6Gb LPDDR3 has a per-pin data transfer rate of up to 2,133 megabits per second (Mbps) and when four 6Gb LPDDR3 chips are stacked together for a 3GB (gigabyte) LPDDR3 package, it results in a 20 percent smaller package and 10 percent less energy consumption than the currently available 3GB package with 6Gb LPDDR3 chips.
