After a series of leaks, Samsung has made the second generation of its Gear Fit device official. The Gear Fit2 builds on the predecessor with a revamped design and an integrated GPS that makes your jogging or cycling sessions accurate and the standalone music player ensures that you don’t have to carry your smartphone anymore while exercising.
The Gear Fit2 also comes with Auto Activity Tracking that automatically detects the exercise you’re doing and supports S Health that enables transfer and viewing of data and provides ‘Step Challenges,’ for 1:1 competition with friends.
On the hardware side, the Gear Fit2 features a 1.5-inch 216×432 Curved Super AMOLED display, 1GHz dual-core processor, 512MB RAM, 4GB internal memory, heart rate sensor, 200mAh battery and IP68 certified that keeps it safe from water (up to 30 minutes in up to 1.5m of water).
Unlike the original Gear Fit that worked only with Samsung devices, this will work with any Android device running Android 4.4 and above and have 1.5GB+ RAM.
The Gear Fit2 will be available from June 10 for $179 in three colour options – black, blue and pink and two wrist band options – small and large. It is currently on pre-order in the United States.
