Samsung also announced a 5 megapixel System-on-Chip (SoC) image sensor at the Samsung Mobile Solutions Forum in Taiwan. The S5K4EA SoC has been created to bring the digital camera equivalent performance to high-end mobile phones.
The SoC packs a CMOS Image Sensor and an image signal processor in a 1.4-micron (um) size. Its rich feature set includes dynamic range expansion that helps to brighten dark areas, integrated image stabilizer and advanced noise removal logic to improve the overall image quality.
The chip also supports auto focus, Xenon flash, mechanical or electronic rolling shutter and capability to record full HD images at 30 frames-per-second.
The S5K4EA samples are currently available with mass production scheduled to start from the first quarter of next year.
