Samsung showed off number of technologies at the 6th Samsung Mobile Solutions Forum in Taiwan and one of the interesting tech was the development of a 1GHz ARM Cortex-A8 based Application Processor (AP). The S5PC110 AP targeted at small form-factor devices and S5PV210 AP targeted at portable devices like netbooks are based on 45nm low power fabrication process that claims to give PC-like performance on mobile devices.
PC-level performance with lower power consumption will become mainstream requirements for advanced mobile devices. Samsung developed S5PC110 and S5PV210 application processors to satisfy these conflicting requirements to enable a new level of user experience not previously possible.
With the help of the 45nm fabrication tech, 32KB data and 32KB instruction cache, 512KB L2 cache, these 1GHz processors allow web browsing, movie watching and any other real-time applications to render smoothly with a faster response time.
Additionally, both these APs feature built-in 3D graphics engine, a 1080p full HD codec engine and integrated HDMI 1.3 interface to output multimedia content on a larger screen.
Samsung has not set the date for volume production but samples will be available in December 2009.
